Dental Crowns & Bridges FAQs

Dental crowns are caps placed over the entire tooth to act as enamel. These caps are often designed to blend with the surrounding teeth and can be made from multiple materials. The different types of dental crowns include metal, porcelain, stainless steel, ceramic, and even composite resin. At Santa Teresa smile, we offer tooth-colored, BPA and metal-free crowns produced with CEREC® technology to allow our patients to leave with a new restoration in a single visit!

On average, crowns last about ten years after the dental crown procedure, and bridges last roughly five years. Care for each includes practicing good oral hygiene like brushing and flossing daily, keeping up with regular cleanings, and avoiding chewing hard foods or ice to increase the lifespan and maintain the condition of a dental crown or bridge.

Both dental crowns and bridges serve to restore the appearance and function of your teeth. Neither a crown nor bridge is better than the other. However, in cases of one tooth that is cracked, has a filling or root canal, then a dental crown would be a great option. In cases where multiple teeth in a row are missing, a dental bridge may be the better option. If you’re uncertain whether you need a dental crown or bridge or would like Dr. Oushy to take a look at your current dental restoration, give our office a call to set up a visit!
