After an hour or more in the dental office, you may want to relax after your appointment by diving into your favorite treats. Unfortunately, depending on your procedure, this may not be possible. Whether it’s a dental implant restoration or tooth extraction, post-op dental care, including your diet, is essential to the success of your oral health.

Post-Op Diet

The best way to prepare for a post-op dental procedure is to set up everything you need afterward. That way, you can focus on resting. One big thing you can get out of the way is purchasing or planning out the food you can eat after a dental procedure! Eating specific foods can help your recovery and make eating post-op as enjoyable as possible.

Post-Op Food Ideas

When prepping or consuming food or drinks post-op, be sure to stick to warm or room temperature items to avoid irritation. Some post-op diet food ideas include:

  • Yogurt
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Oatmeal
  • Scrambled Eggs
  • Soup

When Can I Return To My Normal Diet?

Soft foods are a great way to encourage proper healing and to avoid irritating or opening any wound sites. You’ll be provided with post-op dental procedure instructions when you leave the dental office. Typically, we’ll give you a time frame for when it’s okay to start returning to crunchy or hard foods. Overall, the time to return to eating crunchy or hard foods will vary on your procedure and how well you provide care to your post-op site.
