At Santa Theresa Smiles we use ozone for cleaning and disinfection purposes. Ozone’s antimicrobial properties make it a good method for sterilizing equipment and disinfecting surfaces in dental settings.
What is ozone? Ozone is oxygen with an extra atom. It is chemically unstable or “excited” and carries a negative charge which means it tries to neutralize anything positively charged. Normal healthy cells are unaffected by ozone; but bacteria, viruses, and other abnormal cells carry a positive charge and their membranes are destroyed by ozone. Ozone is a natural substance and we use it to take the place of caustic chemicals and invasive techniques.
At Santa Teresa Smiles, Dr, Oushy uses ozone in the following ways to keep the office and equipment clean and sterile and ready for you.
- Water Treatment: We add Ozone to our water systems to disinfect and purify water. Equipment and tools that use water for procedures like cleaning teeth and cooling equipment benefit from ozone’s antimicrobial effects, helping to reduce the risk of infections.
- Air Purification: Ozone is used to improve indoor air quality in our office by helping eliminate odors and airborne microorganisms.
- Surface Disinfection: We use Ozone’s oxidizing properties to eliminate bacteria, viruses, and fungi on various surfaces, such as dental chairs, counters, and equipment.
