When you ask a dentist the best way to avoid Halloween cavities, you’re probably not going to like the answer! We know we can’t stop you from enjoying some fun-size candy bars and treats during the spooky season. But here are some tips to help you avoid cavities if you do indulge your sweet tooth this October.

Double Down on DIY Care

Now is the time to remember your oral care routine, especially if you’ve been slacking! A great at-home care routine includes brushing at least twice every day, for two minutes each time, and flossing daily. You also might want to incorporate a mouthwash into your routine. Make sure you replace your toothbrush every three months, and that you’re brushing gently.

All About Balance

If you’re going to splurge, make sure it’s just here and there. And be sure that the rest of your diet is healthy and balanced. That means eating more fresh fruits and veggies, and less foods that are full of carbs and sugar. This will keep your teeth healthy by avoiding the buildup of plaque bacteria.

Stay Hydrated

Not only does staying hydrated do wonders for your health and the way you feel on a daily basis, it’s also important for your oral health. It is especially important to have water on hand when you have just consumed something sugary or starchy. You can use the water in the immediate aftermath to flush out the lingering food particles and bacteria. But you will want to brush those teeth ASAP.
